Priority Energy Audit
Minimize

Your home is likely to be the single biggest investment you will ever make.  Unfortunately, the cost of owning a home seems to keep climbing; be it property taxes, mortgage rates or utility bills.  Let us help you begin to control some of those costs and make your home more comfortable in the process.

The Priority Energy Audit typically takes between 3 – 4 hours and results in our detailed Priority Energy Plan customized for your home or business based on your priorities.  Depending on your priorities the plan can include everything from a short term do-it-yourself weatherization plan to a long term plan which incorporates the evaluation of your all things energy (home, auto, and else)

Priority Energy is a nationally certified home energy rater (providing Energy Audits, HERs Ratings and Energy Star Certification), performing cutting edge diagnostics on your home.  We can help you pinpoint exactly how much you are currently spending on utilities, how much you should be spending on energy, and the path to get there.

Our Energy Audit Services begin at $300 for homes 2,500 sq. ft or less with one furnace and go up by $100 for each additional 1000 sq. ft or furnace thereafter.  So if your home is 3,500 sq. ft with 1 furnace, the price would be $400.

Still not convinced you need an energy audit, don't take our word for it, check out our resources tab which provides a detailed look at why a professional energy audit is critical to making your home energy efficient.

We utilize building sciences to understand every aspect of your home.  Your home works as a single system, making one change effects everything else.   By looking at your entire home, our planners will be able to give you a step-by-step approach to maximize savings.  See below for an overview of what's included in your energy audit.

What's Included?

Utility Bill Review & Interview

Our energy analysts will review your utility bills, interview you, and conduct a high level inspection of your home or business to better understand what options are available and the fastest way for you to begin to reduce your utility bills and save money.

We're able to break down your utility bills into two primary uses - base load (hot water, washer/dryer, refrigeration, etc...) and seasonal (heating and cooling).  You would be surprised at how much we can determine simply by applying some match to your utility bills - we can usually tell how efficiently your furnace and air conditioners are running simply by comparing your seasonal usage to other homeowners in your area.

Infrared Analysis & Insulation Inspections

Our Energy Analysts have been trained and certified to conduct a comprehensive infrared analysis of your home.  Infrared imaging allows us to see insulation problems like those shown here.  We’re able to see things not visible to the naked eye; we can see missing roof insulation, construction details of your home and air leaks around doors and windows.

We’ll also analyze your windows to understand the efficiency of their insulation and UV coatings.  This will help us determine the necessity and potential value associated with any window replacements.

Air Tightness Tests with Blower Door and Duct Testers

Our Energy Analysts have been certified to conduct a comprehensive blower door test of your home.  Essentially this will simulate worst case conditions in your home and identify exactly how much air your home is letting in and letting out, and quantify the savings associated with bringing it in line with national standards.

Our test doesn’t stop here, we also perform a detailed analysis on your home’s ductwork to understand if your homes ductwork is properly balanced and leak free to minimize energy loss and maximize comfort.  See more on our resources tab on how leaky ducts can negatively affect your home and health

Mechanical Efficiency & Combustion Safety Testin
g

The only products of complete combustion are carbon dioxide and water.  If a combustion appliance such as a furnace or water heater is running inefficiently it will produce inordinate amounts of carbon monoxide and oxygen.  Additionally, the temperature of the exhaust gas also tells us a lot of about the efficiency of the system – too hot, and your wasting energy, too cold and it means you’re probably producing acidic condensation in your vents and chimney which can cause big problems.  Priority Energy Planners use the latest flue-gas analyzers to test the gas and temperature exiting your combustion appliances.  This will help us tune or identify potential replacement candidates and the associated savings.

Additionally during the duct blower test  mentioned above Priority Energy will also test the balance of airflow coming to and leaving your furnace.  If a furnace is improperly setup it can increase the pressure in your vents which will cause your unit to run inefficiently and potentially fail sooner.

Improvement Analysis and Reporting

Our Energy Analysts will provide a detailed report identifying exactly where you can save the most money.  Our reports prioritize those items with the largest return and lowest costs first, and then move from there.  To see a full example of one of our reports, please click here.
